My name is Oliver Benjamin Thayer.
I was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma to a French, book collecting mother & a Marxist, record collecting father. I didn't fit in with the other kids.
Half beaten to death by paddles & bibles, I was thankfully moved to Istanbul, Turkey when I was ten years old. I recall living in a place the Armenian villagers called “The Evil Hill”. They called it this because of an Armenian church massacre in the early 20th century by Turkish soldiers.
Being a somewhat reclusive child & also due to my transient upbringing, I had met few children & attempted to play a lone game in said church.
The air was thick & wet with unrest.
I followed a trail from the back exit that led further up the hill. There was a shrine. I didn't call it holy, but I later found out that the villagers did. A small waterfall poured onto ancient stones protruding from a disintegrating, moss covered wall. That's what it looked like. It felt like a meeting place of spirits that hadn't yet found repose.
It was at the same time peaceful and peace less. It was a small apocalypse.
“Small Apocalypse” was created over the last few months as a genre blending experiment.
This is densely layered electronic folk rock with samples and break beats.
Enjoy the record.
